Photo Eyes
The wide variety of photoelectric sensors with their varying function characteristics solves almost every
"detection problem".
- Throughbeam - Throughbeam sensors consist of transmitter and receiver, which are contained in separate housings.
The beam of the transmitter travels the whole light path only once.
- Retro-Reflective - With retro-reflective sensors, the transmitter and receiver are combined in one housing. The
beam of the transmitter meets the reflector and is redirected to the receiver of the sensor.
- Retro-Reflective Sensors with Polarisation Filter - Highly reflective objects, such as mirror-like metal parts
could cause switching errors. Those problems are avoided with polarised light filters.
- Energetic Diffuse Reflection Scanners - The transmitter's beam is returned by the surface to be scanned itself.
The scanning range of such a sensor is depending on its performance abilities and the reflection properties of the
scanned surface.
- Diffuse Reflection Light Scanners with Fading
- Diffuse Reflection Scanners with Background Suppression

Single Light Beam Safety Devices |
Leuze BCL 8 is a new wave in technology. It is the world's smallest barcode reader but not small in
capability. It has a protection rating of IP 67. Its very small size makes it easy to mount in many small places. It is made out
of metal (die cast zinc) making it very durable. For easy connection to the BCL 8 a MA 8 can be used. There are many different
types of mounting systems and connecting cables for Leuze Lumiflex BCL 8.
- Reading distance of 40 to 160mm (depending on version and module size)
- Only available in single line scanner
- 600 scans/s scanning rate

Safety Locking Devices
Leuze electronic is pleased to offer safety switches and safety interlocking devices. Safety switches
are used for monitoring moveable hard guards such as protective doors, removable cages or flaps. An E-stop command is
triggered when the guards are opened. All of these devices have contact sets for control related integration up to
category 4. The portfolio also includes safety position switches and safety hinge switches, which provides you with the
perfect solution for many applications.
Safety Locking Devices keep the protective door locked and therefore prevent inadmissible access by
people. The access to the danger zone is only released by an electric signal when either the dangerous movement has
stopped (personnel protection) or an uninterruptible work process has been finished (machine protection). All Leuze
electronic Safety Switches and Locking Devices are configured with their robust design for use in tough industrial
applications and prove their value under the most demanding operational conditions.

Colour, Contrast & Luminescence Sensors
- Contrast Scanner - Contrast scanners are high-resolution, energetic diffuse reflection scanners which differentiate
between objects and/or object colours by grey values. This means that the brightness and shininess of the object or
object colour strongly affect the measurement result. Contrast scanners have focusing optics and a special light-spot
geometry.
- Color Scanners - Colour sensors are diffuse reflection scanners which break down object colours into their different
spectral components using a special combination of transmitter light. The different spectral composition of the received
light is analysed by the sensor and compared with values stored previously in the sensor.
- Luminescence Scanners - Luminescence scanners are energetic diffuse reflection scanners which illuminate luminescing
materials by means of their special UV transmission light. The resulting visible light is detected by the luminescence
sensor. Some of these luminescent materials are invisible and are available in a variety of solid and fluid forms.

Optical Distance & Light Section Sensors
These sensors function with red, infrared or laser light. Through the use of various receiving elements,
such as CCD lines or a PSD element, the performance of the sensor can be adapted to the application or the given
requirements. With these devices, various measurement techniques are used for distance determination. These include, among
others: triangulation, phase measurement and the pulse propagation time technique. The accuracy of the measurement result is
almost completely independent of differences in object colour. All systems can be adapted to a given application using
configuration software.
Light section sensors work according to the triangulation principle. Using transmission optics a laser
beam is expanded to a line and aimed at a measurement object. The light remitted by the object is monitored by a position
sensitive planar detector (CMOS camera). Depending on the distance of the measurement object the laser line is projected to
a different position on the planar detector. By means of this position the distance of the measurement object can be
calculated. The sensor outputs 2D measurement values. It is possible to produce 3D profile data by including the movement of
the measurement object.

Ultrasonic Distance Sensors
With these sensors, acoustic waves are transmitted and are reflected by the objects which are to be
detected. The propagation time of the acoustic waves reflected back to the sensor is measured and the distance to the object
calculated. This physical principle is particularly well suited for the detection of fluid-, powder-, and transparent media.
The switching signals and distance information are available via digital or analog outputs. Application specific parameters
can be set directly on the sensor using programming software.
- Measurement ranges to 6000mm
- Outputs:
- 2 switching outputs
- analogue current output
- analogue voltage output
- Operating principles:
- HRTU models with background suppression
- VRTU models with foreground and background suppression

AS-Interface Safety at Work
Flexibility and fast diagnostics are becoming increasingly more important for automation technology in
modern production systems, which of course also applies to safety technology. At the same time, every automation level
makes its own demands on communication. While Ethernet-based systems are increasingly used at the guidance, control and
field level, AS-Interface (AS-i) has established itself at the sensor/actuator level.
When compared with conventional point-to-point wiring, AS-i pushes to the fore with its low installation,
wiring and connection costs. Suitable gateways create connections to higher-level field bus systems.
- Safety Laser Scanner type 3
- Safety Light Curtains type 4
- Multiple Light Beam Safety Devices type 4
- AS-i Safety Monitor category 4

Safety Relays
With Safety Relays of the MSI series, depending on the application, opto-electronic safety sensors or
Safety Switches can be connected to the safety circuit of the machine control system. The interfaces must be right here. In
addition to high reliability and service life, small construction dimensions are often also required. The MSI Safety Relays
take these requirements into account with their mechanical and electrical design in an ideal way, and also enable an
economical integration into many kinds of safety-related faulty connection situations.
Configurable MSI Safety Relays connect safety sensors with the machine control system. The devices are
highly reliable and have long life times, and with their compact, connectionoptimized design enable fast and space-saving
integration into the cabinet. MSI modules are set up like safety control units in redundant switching systems. In contrast
to the control units, they do not have to be programmed. The devices satisfy PL e in accordance EN ISO 13849-1 and provide
various safety-relevant additional functions, such as start/restart interlock, contactor monitoring, test monitoring of type
2 sensors, single/doublecycle control or Muting.
| Configurable Safety Relays |
|
With their easy handling during start-up, flexible configuration option and extensive on-board
functionality, the MSI 100 and MSI 200 programmable Safety Controllers offer an optimum system solution for small- to
medium size machines. Advantageous for all applications is the simple extensibility through safe I/O modules and through
communication modules for integrating in fieldbus networks. Based on MSIsafesoft programming software, the Safety Device
facilitate the efficient integration, communication and coordination of a machine's safety sensors through the use of
function modules and logic blocks. The combination of innovative connection systems (either screw terminal or spring-cage
terminal), compact and space-saving styles, as well as the clear design result in the simple implementation of safety
applications.
