Potentiometer Now Available On SMVector Inverters
Lenze-AC Technology Corporation announces the release of the
Potentiometer Option for SMVector NEMA 4X Inverter models. According to company sources, the Potentiometer option is built
right into the terminal cover, providing direct front panel access. Steve Dextraze, Inverter Product Manager at
Lenze-AC Tech, calls it robust and easy to maneuver and states that the potentiometer knob takes the place of the up/down
buttons on the drive keypad, giving the operator manual speed control over a 0-10V analog output.
"The potentiometer option is great for use in hands-on applications where speed must be ramped up/down,
such as conveyer applications or food/beverage process applications." says Dextraze, adding, "In single use installations the
potentiometer provides just the right amount of control without the user having to use the keypad."

Dextraze explains that the SMVector inverter drive provides all the features required by demanding
applications, including four modes of operation - V/Hz, Enhanced V/Hz, Vector Speed, and Torque - plus high starting torque,
auto-tuning, advanced low-speed control and dynamic speed regulation. Dextraze further comments that the SMVector is designed
to be truly a global product, with an input voltage ranging from 120VAC 1-phase to 600 VAC, 3-phase, plus
The Electronic Programming Module or EPM, a removable chip that is
the drive's memory and allows a customer to program multiple drives in just seconds; the SMVector NEMA 4X also offers an
integral disconnect option for quick and easy motor maintenance.

Positionservo Now Available With ISO 13849 Safety Circuit
Lenze-AC Tech announces the release of the ISO 13849-1 Safety Circuit for the PositionServo drive.
PositionServo drives with suffixes "ES" and "RS" now include a safety circuit that disables the drive output to the motor so
that the drive cannot generate torque in the motor. This safety function, termed "Safe Standstill", meets the requirements of
ISO 13849-1 Safety of machinery - Safety-related parts of control systems - Part 1: General principles for design. The
PositionServo ISO 13849-1 safety circuit provides a highly reliable disable of the drive. Even in the event of a single
fault (single component failure) the ISO 13849-1 safety circuit will still function and disable the drive.
ISO 13849-1 takes up where EN954 was lacking in addressing safety circuits in programmable electronic
systems. ISO 13849-1 uses probability to define performance levels in terms of category (structure), mean time to dangerous
failure (MTTFd), diagnostic coverage (DC) and common cause failure (CCF). Fully characterizing these four parameters provides
a clearer picture of the level of performance required for the safety circuit to disable the device in which it is
installed.

"Lenze-AC Tech drives are employed in many types of automated processes worldwide and the safety of both
the equipment and personnel is paramount." says Dale Seidlitz, Quality and Safety Manager at Lenze-AC Tech. "Designing our
products in accordance with the strict requirements of international safety standards just makes it easier for our global
customers to purchase our products, knowing we have designed safety into them." The ISO 13849 safety circuit provides the
customer with one more safeguard to protect his investment in automation equipment and personnel.

Perfectly Pair Servo Drives & Motors, With New MotionMatch Software
Lenze-AC Tech announces the release of the MotionMatch sizing software for its servo drives and motors.
Company officials describe the combination of
MotionMatch Motor Sizing & MotionView Drive Configuration Software as a
powerful yet simple solution to motion control management. According to Darrow Hanesian, Director of Product Management at
Lenze-AC Tech, "Sizing a motor shouldn't be rocket science and neither should programming a servo drive." Hanesian states that
Lenze-AC Tech's MotionMatch, used with the existing MotionView, takes all the guess work out of pairing a PositionServo drive
and a Lenze Servo motor, plus the user can now configure the drive with infinite ease.
|
 AC Tech MotionMatch Software |
|
"Our application engineers often get asked about the right size motor for a customer's application;
unfortunately, however, the question usually comes after some failure has occurred" says Hanesian. Deb Kling, Lenze-AC Tech
Marketing Manager, agrees, "With thousands of drive and motor combinations to choose from, it is no wonder that customers get
frustrated with the selection process; with MotionMatch, all you need to do is enter your application requirements and the
program will return the compatible servo drive-motor combinations." Hanesian and Kling say that Lenze-AC Tech customers have
been using MotionView to configure the PositionServo drive since the software's introduction in 2001. "The success of
MotionView lies in its intuitive Windows-based platform and the ability to fully program the drive from a PC," says
Hanesian.

Digistart - New Flexible Motor Soft Starter Range From Control Techniques
A new soft starter range has been launched by Control Techniques. As the world leader in intelligent
drives it is perhaps not surprising that the new, compact Digistart range includes many advanced features. The range
comprises of two product families, the ultra compact Digistart CS for induction motors up to 110kW, and the Digistart IS,
perhaps the world's most advanced soft starter, for induction motors up to 800kW. "The Digistart products are a competitive
addition to our range of drives and will enable our customers to benefit greatly from the Control Techniques' application
knowledge of both soft starters in standalone installations and when used in combination with inverter drives" says Product
Manager Jeff Ford. The Digistart CS version is amongst the most compact soft starters on the market. It is easy to use,
configured in seconds using simple rotary switches, yet provides comprehensive motor protection, so that no external devices
are required. It features a Built-In Bypass Contactor that eliminates the
need for external bypass contactors and reduces heat dissipation and energy losses by bridging out the power devices once the
motor is at full speed. This feature saves panel space and often allows the use of non-ventilated enclosures.
|
Digistart Soft Starters For 3-Phase Induction Motors |
|
The intelligent Digistart IS version provides industry-leading motor control; with several start methods
available including constant current, current ramp and new, advanced "adaptive control". The latter provides an unprecedented
level of control over acceleration/deceleration by enabling the user to select the ideal start/stop profile for the
application. Adaptive control then monitors the motor performance by analysing each start/stop and adjusting accordingly to
maintain optimum control. One application where this is a significant benefit is in pumping where it can be used to eliminate
annoying and damaging water hammer effects.
The Digistart IS features a multi-language user interface with in-built start-up wizards for ease of
commissioning, real-time performance monitoring and informative event logs. All parameters are viewed in real engineering
units and can be displayed numerically or graphically. The user interface is IP65 rated and can be mounted remotely, for
example on the cabinet door. Models up to 110kW (220A) feature an internal bypass contactor. Both Digistart CS and Digistart
IS support optional network communications with Profibus, DeviceNet and Modbus RTU protocols.
