Service Life Of Geared Motors Doubled |
Lenze research into gearbox materials, together with extensive test
running, has resulted in a doubling of the service life of geared motors. One example is a change in the material in the rotary
shaft seals to achieve double service life, resulting in reduced life-cycle costs for users. The new shaft seals are already being
fitted on highly dynamic servo geared motors in series production. Drive manufacturers such as Lenze can influence approximately
30% of a machine life-cycle costs by reducing maintenance and downtime, also by making parts more durable. Lenze has also been able
to simplify servicing of the gears by adding plugs to small gearboxes which make it easier to check the level, top up and drain the
oil. |
 Lenze Gearmotors |
Vent valves, which are now also used to provide pressure equalisation in small
Lenze Gearboxes, further help to reduce the wear on shaft seals and extend their life.
Where the application calls for stopping and holding torques, particularly under conditions of power failure, spring applied
friction brakes are fitted to the motors. Here Lenze, working in conjunction with their brake partner INTORQ, have introduced new
friction materials for the brake linings. Compared to conventional brake linings, the new materials have doubled service life
resulting in lower service costs and greater durability. Increased productivity, reduced down times and longer service intervals
for machines and plant are demands which drive technology must meet today. At the same time elements like geared motors are
expected to run at higher speeds and be more compact, resulting in higher mechanical and thermal stresses. These product
improvements demonstrate that Lenze is a competent partner in the design, implementation and operation of drive solutions. |
Choosing a Temperature Transmitter for your application
Perhaps the most fundamental consideration when specifying a
Temperature Transmitter is the environment in which it
will be installed. If the distance between the sensor measurement and the control room is relatively short and free of plant
electrical "noise", temperature transmitters can be inexpensively installed in the control room, with sensor extension wires
leading to them. These transmitter configurations are called DIN-style or rail- mount housings. For economy reasons, multiple
high-density DIN-style transmitters are installed on a mounting rail in a multi-unit protective enclosure, and are powered by a
common power supply.

Slot Sensors Claim Top Precision |
The SRF series of Datasensor
Photoelectric Slot Sensors claim excellent precision with resolutions as high as
0.3mm. The U-shaped metal housing is available with 30, 50, 80 and 120mm slots enabling the SRF series DataSensor slot sensors to
solve many different applications from label detection to product counting on conveyor belts or bowl feeders. Sensitivity
adjustment is easily accomplished using a trimmer positioned on the rear of the sensor which also contains the dark/light
selector and a red LED output status indicator. |

Machine Vision Systems Cut Processing Time |
A new generation of machine vision systems from Panasonic Electric Works
(Aromat NAiS) greatly reduces the processing time required by previous generations
of image processing systems. The Panasonic PV300 machine vision system uses grey-scale/binary processing algorithms to perform
image inspection functions even in the most demanding applications. Equipped with a dual processor (image processor plus RISC CPU)
the optimised algorithms can now perform image processing functions up to 40 times faster than previous generations of system.
With the ability to support up to four high-speed, high-resolution cameras, Panasonic PV300 Machine Vision System supports a
variety of image processing functions. Contour matching provides stable position detection of an object shape among hidden and
overlapping areas. |
 Panasonic Machine Vision Systems |
Smart matching provides detection of a registered template image within a search area to a
sub-grey-scale pixel level, ideal for shape inspection and chip or flaw detection. Feature extraction is a high speed binary
function used to detect objects and their features (eg area, co-ordinates etc) within a predefined area, suitable for object
counting and positional requirements. Grey scale window and edge detection algorithms allow area and edge detection to be realised
to a subpixel level, suitable for high-speed noncontact measurement and size detection. Finally, binary window and edge detection
provide high-speed area and edge detection for less demanding measurement and size detection. A new user interface allows the easy
configuration of the above functions via a high quality VGA display. Powerful communication interfaces allow the sharing of
information via a 100Base-TX Ethernet connection, RS232C port or parallel I/O. Statistical application data can be stored via a
CompactFlash card or analysed using Panasonic's Axtool Vision Support software. |

Panel Meters Cost Less And Take Less Space |
Red Lion Control's new
CUB5 analogue panel meters are less expensive and less than half the size of most standard 1/8-DIN panel meters. Less panel
space and the ability to use smaller enclosures make these meters the perfect solution for any budget. The Red Lion meters are
packed full of features: the large 12mm display, optional single or dual setpoint control output modules and optional RS232 or
RS485 communication modules allow them to handle even the most demanding applications. |

Toshiba S2E/S2T PLC Controllers |
Toshiba's S2E/S2T PLC controllers are small, modular type programmable controllers suitable for simple
relay replacement all the way to complex control applications. The Toshiba S2E/S2T PLCs are
3rd generation T2 Series CPUs used with V-Series racks, I/O, and power supplies. The S2E/S2T provides a functional, economical,
and compact solution to a wide range of applications in automotive, machine control, and process control systems. The S2E/S2T
Toshiba Controllers excel at applications where high speed processing is required. The programming tool for the S2E/S2T is the
T-PDS MS Windows based programming software. Any Toshiba T-Series program can be loaded and run without any program conversion.
Any HMI, OIS, or Scada software used with the T-Series is also compatible. |
 Toshiba S2E/S2T PLC |
The device/register tag and comment can be stored in Toshiba S2E/S2T CPU memory. Tags and
comments can be viewed in the on-line mode without access to the original program (tags and comments are normally stored on the
computer hard disk that created the program). Debugging, trouble shooting and editing is much simpler at the installation if tags
and comments are viewable. The S2E/S2T have an RS485 serial communications port on the CPU module. One of two modes is
selectable; computer link mode or free ASCII mode. In the computer link mode a higher level controller, MMI/OIS, SCADA software
can connect to the CPU. T-PDS Toshiba PLC programming software can also connect in this mode for remote programming. In the free
ASCII mode the CPU can communicate with devices that have a simple ASCII protocol such as T1 PLCs, Toshiba ASDs, bar code
readers, etc.
Both S2E & S2T Toshiba CPUs have 32k steps of program memory (64k step S2T version is also available). This
allows program creation without any consideration for memory constraints. Non-volatile flash memory is used for permanent program
storage. Important register values can also be stored in flash memory. The S2E/S2T Toshiba PLCs offer many useful on-line debug
functions such as input force, coil force, data set, status latch & sample trace. Status Latch: This function collects
(latches) the on/off state of devices or values in registers when a user specified condition is initiated. Sample Trace: This
function collects (records) the on/off state of devices or values in registers over a user specified interval when a user
specified condition is initiated. The collected data can be viewed as a historical trend graph or exported as a *.csv
file. |
