Conversion Summary from G11/P11 to MEGA Series

Ready to convert FRENIC P11 or G11 series to new MEGA series? Fuji AC Drive engineering team created simple summary application note to make it easy for you. You can compare difference between your existing drive and new MEGA series, including dimension, parameters, keypad, option, and etc.

Fuji FRENIC G11 series general purpose vector drives are used for constant torque applications while Fuji FRENIC P11 series vector drives are used for variable torque (fan & pump) applications.

The EcoPAK is a packaged AC drive solution for variable torque fan and pump applications in commercial buildings, educational facilities, hospitals, and industrial facilities. By applying fans and pumps instead of mechanical flow control devices to the EcoPAK - lower energy bills, reduce ambient noise, and improve process control.

FRENIC-EcoPAK LH utilizes a variable frequency ac drive and a Schaffner ECOsine harmonic filter in one complete package solution for an IEEE519 1992 compliant for variable torque fan and pump motor applications. Lenze Expands 8400 Frequency Inverter Platform

Lenze is adding a new decentralised system to its 8400 frequency inverter platform. 8400 protec is the name of the new model, which offers a decentralised drive solution with an integrated safety system. The use of plug & play principles saves valuable time during installation and when servicing is necessary. With a power range from 0.75 to 4 kW, the compact drives are suitable for horizontal and vertical applications in the automotive, beverage and printing industries as well as in logistics.

Shorter motor cables, improved EMC, lower power losses, flexible installation directly in the process and reduced costs for The Control Cabinet & Cooling are just some of the dvantages of decentralised drive technology which Lenze has developed further to create the 8400 protec. The robust drives offer IP65 protection and feature completely pluggable connections, integrated safety systems such as PROFIsafe, simple on-site diagnostics thanks to a large display and LEDs, and high availability.

Like the 8400 series of inverters, which is designed for use in control cabinets, the 8400 protec is functionally scalable from simple to intelligent with the StateLine and HighLine extensions. The addition of a decentralised version to the 8400 inverter platform delivers cost benefits for the users along the entire value-added chain. This is because the handling features like connections, operator controls, tools and parameterisation, are just the same for decentralised and centralised inverters.

These new members of the L-force drive and automation platform also score by good usability. This is reflected in speedy commissioning and ease of replacement. Like the centralised inverters of the platform, the 8400 protec has a plug-in memory module where the parameters are stored. After being plugged in and switched on, 8400 protec is ready for operation immediately - without any time-consuming manual programming. The same applies to the replacement of an inverter: the central memory unit only has to be plugged in and then the equipment is ready for use.

Better Protection: Geared Motors From Lenze

For L-force geared motors, Lenze now offers a specially developed surface and corrosion protection system called OKS. The Hamelin specialist in drive and automation technology has put together a scaled range of packages. They include multi-layered surface coatings, components especially resistant to corrosion, and other protective measures. Wherever protection is needed against salt-laden air, subtropical climatic conditions or even rainwater, the corrosion protection program provides the appropriate protection for various weather conditions.

Based on the corrosivity classes of EN 12944-2, the three packages have been tested extensively, including tests with salt-spray. The OKS-S package is resistant to oil, dirt and moisture. OKS-M (medium) is tailored for slightly more arduous ambient conditions - for example for installation in unheated buildings or covered outdoor areas. In industrial atmospheres with moderate air pollution and a high level of humidity, the OKS-L package is the right choice. Geared motors with this level of protection are in use in uncovered outdoor areas as well, for example in conveying systems for bulk materials.

Lenze Presents New I/O System

Lenze's newly developed I/O System 1000 combines extensive functionality with a modular mechanical concept and compact design. Part of the L-force controls portfolio it offers a highly deterministic activation/deactivation of input and output modules, including the reading-in of touch probe inputs such as needed for synchronised movements in cyclical production processes.

Presented at the Hannover Messe Industrie 2009, the new I/O system of the Hamelin specialist for drive and automation technology convinces by its user-friendliness and outstanding performance. Combining a minimum internal cycle time with a time stamp, it meets even highest speed requirements. Consequently, it is suitable for real-time-based architectures as well. In addition to bus couplers such as CANopen and PROFIBUS, Lenze offers connections for established Industrial Ethernet bus systems such as EtherCat.

The standard I/O-modules allow for the connection of up to eight 2.5 mm2 cables and have a slim design. Besides a width of only 12.5 mm, the labelling and diagnostics display with its bright LEDs can be easily read in a poorly lit control cabinet. Each channel-LED is uniquely assigned to a labelling field. Overall, Lenze successfully combines a slim design with outstanding diagnosis, readability and labelling possibilities.

To create complete integral stations, the modules can be combined just as easily as they are wired or labelled. Up to 64 modules can be put together by simply plugging them into the integrated backplane bus. Users also benefit from the stepped shape of the connecting shape with its tension spring technology and secure wiring.

As to the operational qualities of the I/O system, user-friendliness is key as well. The Terminal Block with Backplane Bus Connections has a modular structure as do the electronics, which feature protection against polarity reversal. As a result, a defective electronic module can be replaced quickly and easily during maintenance due to the plug-in electronics - without the wiring having to be disconnected. This reduces the risk of incorrect wiring and, in case of service and maintenance, saves time.

Novel Thermal Design Reduces Inverter Volume

Lenze has developed 8200 vector inverters using the 'cold plate' technique for cases where the inverter can be mounted directly onto a substantial heatsink. Lenze 8200 vector inverters are available for power 0.55 to 90kW with three-phase supply. In the more popular smaller sizes up to 22kW, a space saving variant can reduce the requirement for panel space by up to 40%. By dissipating the heat outside the cabinet, these 'cold plate' versions enable panels to have higher enclosure ratings. Alternatively a plate with external cooling by liquid or air can be used. The cold plate versions of the 8200 vector inverters have no heat fins, so heat generated is passed to the mounting plate and transmitted out of the cabinet.

In this way inverters require less mounting depth and the space savings are substantial. For a 1.5kW inverter the saving is 25%, rising to 40% for a 22kW inverter. Therefore panels can be smaller and costs reduced. As the heat is now transmitted to outside of the cabinet, requirements for a flow of cooling air through the cabinet are removed. Cabinets can be sealed and protection to IP65 is easier to achieve. This is particularly advantageous in dusty conditions where any through flow of air would cause a dust build-up. Above 22kW the cold plate design is not available. However an alternative 'push-through' design can be used right up to 90kW.

Here the Inverter Heatsink is mounted outside of the panel, gaining the advantages of panel space and enclosure as described. The concept of the 8200 vector frequency inverter is based on a modular system of complementary components. Combined with a Lenze geared motor or a Lenze three-phase AC motor, it can be used to implement electronic variable speed drives for a multiplicity of applications. Compact: Side-by-side mounting saves space in the control cabinet. Integrated filters (optional) simplify installation. Flexible: The modular structure enables the inverters to be optimised for your application. This results in cost-effective but high-performance drive solutions. Whether as a "stand-alone" inverter with setpoint selection via potentiometer or a networked inverter with speed feedback in master/slave mode, the inverter functions can be adapted to suit every application.

Service Life Of Geared Motors Doubled

Lenze research into gearbox materials, together with extensive test running, has resulted in a doubling of the service life of geared motors. One example is a change in the material in the rotary shaft seals to achieve double service life, resulting in reduced life-cycle costs for users. The new shaft seals are already being fitted on highly dynamic servo geared motors in series production. Drive manufacturers such as Lenze can influence approximately 30% of a machine life-cycle costs by reducing maintenance and downtime, also by making parts more durable. Lenze has also been able to simplify servicing of the gears by adding plugs to small gearboxes which make it easier to check the level, top up and drain the oil.

Vent valves, which are now also used to provide Pressure Equalisation in Small Gearboxes, further help to reduce the wear on shaft seals and extend their life. Where the application calls for stopping and holding torques, particularly under conditions of power failure, spring applied friction brakes are fitted to the motors. Here Lenze, working in conjunction with their brake partner INTORQ, have introduced new friction materials for the brake linings. Compared to conventional brake linings, the new materials have doubled service life resulting in lower service costs and greater durability. Increased productivity, reduced down times and longer service intervals for machines and plant are demands which drive technology must meet today. At the same time elements like geared motors are expected to run at higher speeds and be more compact, resulting in higher mechanical and thermal stresses. These product improvements demonstrate that Lenze is a competent partner in the design, implementation and operation of drive solutions.
