The MCH Series is a variable torque AC Tech Drive for HVAC applications and is available with options
such as bypass, Line Reactor, and input disconnect or
circuit breaker. The MCH Series AC Tech Drives
also include PID Setpoint Control as a standard feature. Designed for HVAC Professionals, the AC Tech MCH Series is an ideal
solution for flow and volume control of fans, pumps and cooling towers. Variable frequency drives not only provide better
regulation of the system (and thereby greater comfort), but save significant energy compared with traditional damper or valve
systems.
These NEMA 1 controls are available from 1/4 hp to 250 hp. "Contractor Ready" assemblies feature a hinged
cover and installed options that can include a Disconnect, fuses,
line reactor and/or 3-contactor bypass. AC Tech has been serving the HVAC project market for over 15 years with tens of
thousands of installations world-wide. The MCH Series AC Tech Drive is designed to operate
Standard Polyphase Induction Motors rated for 200, 230, 400,
460 or 575VAC from 0 to 120Hz.

The MCH Series AC Tech Drive offers intuitive
Operator Interface using plain english programming and operational
information. Let the drive software adjust the motor speed to maintain a preset pressure, flow, temperature or other independent
variables using PID Setpoint Control. The MCH Series AC Tech HVAC Drives include UL and cUL approved motor protection device for
single motor applications. The MCH Series AC Tech Variable Frequency Drive has been specifically designed for HVAC loads such as
fans, pumps and cooling towers. The application specific keypad offers easy operation. Features especially useful for fan or pump
applications include:
- HOA keys to mimic traditional Hand, Off, and Auto functions
- PID set point control
- Hour and kWh meters
- 32 character plain English backlit LCD display with adjustable viewing angle
MCH Series AC Tech Drives installed options include, Branch Circuit Protection: Choose either a Circuit
Breaker or Disconnect with fusing, both offer door interlocked rotary handle. If branch circuit protection is located elsewhere,
door interlocked disconnect switch is available without fusing. Input Line Reactor: The most recommended complement to a
good drive installation. The input reactor adds protection for the drive against common electrical noise and line spikes while
reducing noise and harmonics back to the supply mains. Drive Bypass: Three-contactor drive bypass completely isolates the
drive when operating the motor at full speed directly across the line. Contactor logic and controls are operated at 115VAC and
Include Pilot Light Operators & Door Mounted Controls. The MCH Series AC Tech VFD is available with an Option Box that allows
options such as input disconnect switch, input fuses, and/or input line reactor to be added to the drive. These options are
factory assembled and Wired In A NEMA 1 Enclosure. AC Tech MCH Series VFD offers the
best flow control solution based on factors like energy savings and fast payback.
What is the Bypass and how does it work?
The Bypass option allows the motor to be operated across line power in the event that the drive is unavailable, or if continued
operation at full speed is required. The AC Tech Bypass Consists Of Three Contactors. In Drive mode, the VFD input and output
contactors are closed, and the Bypass contactor is open. In Bypass mode, the VFD input and output contactors open to fully isolate
the drive, while the Bypass contactor closes to apply line power directly to the motor. Control logic is provided to insure proper
sequencing of the contactors. The AC Tech Bypass also has a Drive Test mode, which closes the VFD input contactor (the output
contactor remains open), allowing the drive to be configured and programmed while the motor is running in Bypass.
Why are three contactors better than two?
Some drive suppliers only use two contactors in their bypass for a cheaper design. They do not utilize a VFD input contactor,
which means that even in Bypass mode, power is still applied to the drive. If a short circuit were to occur in the drive portion
of the unit, attempting to apply main power would result in clearing input fuses or tripping the input breaker. This renders the
bypass useless, which means the motor cannot be operated (thus defeating the purpose of the bypass). By having the third contactor
to completely isolate the drive, the AC Tech bypass will still operate, insuring critical equipment remains on line.
MH200 Series AC Tech HVAC Drives are rated for 240/200 Vac, 50-60 Hz input. The drive will function with
input voltages of 200 to 240 Vac (+ 10%, - 15%), at 48 to 62 Hz. MH400 Series AC Tech Inverters are rated for 480/400 Vac,
50-60 Hz input. The drive will function with input voltages of 400 to 480 Vac (+ 10%, - 15%), at 48 to 62 Hz. MH500 Series
AC Tech VFD Drives are rated for 590/480 Vac, 50-60 Hz input. The drive will function with input voltages of 480 to 590 Vac
(+ 10%, - 15%), at 48 to 62 Hz.
